Any person who suffers from an itchy and persistent rash is probably suffering from a type of dermatitis called eczema. Eczema is not a specific skin disease but comprises several skin diseases. Itching and redness along with blistering, peeling, and weeping are all results from the various types of eczema. Eczema can be noticeable on all parts of the body but it primarily affects the insides of backs, elbows, knees, and the face.
The following is a general description of the various eczema types. Atopic dermatitis is the most long-lasting and severe kind of eczema. Hand eczema is sometimes referred to as hand dermatitis. This type of eczema is the most common. There is, at last report, almost 10% of the population who suffers from this type of condition. It affects the fingers and web spaces and is an irritant contact type of dermatitis.
When the skin makes contact with certain substances it may result in a skin inflammation that is called contact dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a form of eczema that will produce reddish-round areas and sometimes a slight scaling. This type of eczema is often found in the upper chest area. Dyshidrotic eczema is mostly common in women and it produces an eczema that blisters. This form of eczema is limited to the fingers, soles, and palms of the feet.
Nummular Eczema is another very common type of eczema. It is sometimes called discoid eczema or nummular dermatitis. This particular condition is not restricted to any age group. A type of eczema that is very similar to atopic dermatitis is called Neurodermatitis. This kind of eczema is very itchy. Finally, Stasis Dermatitis is a form of eczema that is found usually in the lower legs. This particular sort of eczema will arise when there’s a problem with a person’s veins.
As mentioned previously, Atopic dermatitis is a kind of eczema that causes inflamed skin that is very itchy. Of the 31 million people in United States who have symptoms of eczema, there are almost 18 million who have atopic dermatitis. For this reason it is considered not only the most common form of eczema but also the most severe.
Diseases that fall under the terminology of “atopic” mean that they were originally described as conditions that produced asthma and hay fever. There is no indication that atopic dermatitis is contagious but rather it has been determined that you will have, more than likely, inherited it from one of your parents.
If one of your parents has an atopic condition, you will have a one in four chance of also having some type of topic disease. If both of your parents have an atopic condition, your odds increased to one in two. Atopic dermatitis will normally begin in a person’s childhood during the infancy stage. The symptoms will be scaly, itchy, and dry skin. There can also be rashes on the cheeks, arms, or legs and cracks behind the ears. If you suffer from any of these eczema types you with will need to visit a dermatologist for medical relief.
